Procedures

At the Richmond Clinic, Jane is available for consultations and can perform minor procedures such as banding of haemorrhoids and excision of skin lesions/anal skin tags.

For any condition requiring sedation or a general anaesthetic procedures are carried out at Tasman Day Surgery (341 Lower Queen Street), Nelson Day Surgery (132 Collingwood Street) or Manuka Street Hospital.

Manuka Street Hospital

Procedures Jane provides at Manuka Street Hospital are:

  • Gastroscopy (looking into stomach with an endoscope)
  • Colonoscopy (looking into the colon otherwise known as large bowel) with an endoscope – an endoscope is a long flexible tube with a camera on the end that can visualize the lining of the gut. If there are any polyps (an abnormal overgrowth of the lining of the colon that can sometimes lead to bowel cancer) Jane can often remove them at the time.
  • Jane offers laparoscopic surgery when appropriate (if not appropriate these will be done using an open approach which means a larger incision) for the following conditions:
  1. Inguinal, femoral, umbilical and incisional hernias
  2. Gallstone/gallbladder removal
  3. Colon cancer
  4. Diverticular disease
  5. Inflammatory bowel disease involving either small or large bowel
  6. Rectal prolapse
  7. Resection of abdominal and/or pelvic endometriosis. This is done in conjunction with my gynaecology colleagues, the initial work up for the patient will be with the gynaecology team.
